Here is a video of my mother making Italian Struffoli, she's very camera shy so I couldn't really feature too much of her. LOL. As you will notice we married the shots and video together just to give you an idea of the process. I will post the recipe as well.

Petrali, Italian Fig Cookies
Many southern Italians make the most delicious cookies during Christmas time. The Italian fig cookies called, Petrali are fig filled cookies that are a speciality from southern Italy and Sicily. Its often times hard to find a bakery where you can get these but if you have time and patience to find the ingredients, then bake away. The first time I actually made Petrali was in my aunt's house in Italy. The process is incredible and the ingredients are as fresh as can be, what I noticed about the process is that my aunt and cousins are so patient with the preparation. When the cookies are done, oh my lord are they good. We didn't make them this year, but I did find recipe online that outlines how to make these fig filled cookies. Good Luck. If you know how or want to share your knowledge on petrali, post away!

Authentic Italian Cookies.
I'm at my sister's house today, we're making Italian cookies. Ok, for those of you this is the real deal cookie, not that store bought crap or pawned off recipe from someone who thinks they're Italian. These cookies are straight out of Calabria. Speaking of Calabria, my mother is off to Italy tomorrow. So, in order to get some of the Italian baking done before she leaves we've embarked on the big assembly line of making cookies. We're making Italian knot cookies with the frosting and colorful toppings, then we'll move onto a very simple Italian cookie with some Sambuca. I will say, I'm more of the spectator than baker. My sister, Meri is the cookie and Italian food expert. I will post the pictures online as well for your viewing. I am off to bake! Ciao.
